The One Hour Shoe Rack
25 Aug 2020Our cheap shoe rack broke into a few peices a couple weeks ago and I decided it was finally time to make a new one. A quick sketch and a trip to Home Depot later I had the design and wood ready to go. But…..I put off making it till this past weekend. It went together in an hour, hence the name the ‘One Hour Shoe Rack’. All it took was 3 cuts and 8 screws.
I cut the board with a handsaw using a scrap piece of wood as a guide. The screw holes were predrilled in each piece because I do not have a clamp to hold the pieces together. I partially screwed in the screws until the tips came out to easily align the pieces together. The top was screwed into the sides first to make the initial structure and then the middle shelf was added.
In my mind this was a much bigger ordeal but once I got into the build it flew together. Getting over that initial hump of starting a project is a big struggle for me. I’ll do the prep work, etc but then procrastinate the actaul implementation. Ya know, inertia and all that. Anyways…. my house has a functional shoe rack again.
Here’s the final product.
Materials
- One 10in x 8ft board; wood of your choice; I used common pine because it’s cheap
- 8 1-1/2in wood screws to hold it together
I’m also thinking of making
- orchid stand
- bench
- bed frame
Stay tuned!
